Every choice we make leads to an outcome, or consequence of some kind. We have several systems in place to help children see that respectful choices usually lead to positive outcomes, and disrespectful choices usually lead to negative outcomes.
Redirection: Redirections are quick attempts (restating the rule, moving closer to a student, etc.) to get a student back on track so that teaching and learning can continue.
Minors/Reflections: These reflection forms are for disrupting class, inappropriate language, defiance, property misuse, and minor physical contact/aggression. If the behavior is not hurting another person and a student is not responding to redirection, then he or she completes a reflection form. If the behavior harms another person, there is an automatic reflection time. Consequences of a minor are typically implemented by the teacher or paraprofessional involved. A copy of the reflection form is often sent home.
Majors: Majors are PSD Code of Conduct violations and chronic minor offenses (more than 3 in a 3 week period). The consequences for a major are
decided upon and implemented by the principal on a case-by-case basis, and always involve parent contact.
