What is PBIS?
Shepardson is a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) school. This means that we believe that appropriate behavior needs to be taught, modeled, and reinforced throughout the school day. When children make appropriate, respectful choices, they should be recognized. When children make inappropriate, or disrespectful choices, they need to be re-taught.
We track problem behaviors in order to look for trends that need to be addressed. Classroom teachers and our counselor use behavior data to plan meaningful class and small group lessons.
Our ultimate goal is to help all children develop internal control so that they will remember to make positive choices, even when no adult is watching.
